For the first time you have the possibility to camp on the glacier. You do not have to be an explorer or scientist to overnight on the glacier. You will be provided with all camping gear needed (tent, sleepingbag, madrass, food, extra clothing gear such as overall). Staying overnight on the glacier is a once in a life experience. Watching the sunset and the sunrise as the midnight sun lights up the horizon. You will take part in preparing the food with the other participants – led by the glacier guide who will take care of your safety on the glacier.

This is a part of our tour ICE5 which is a guided daytour from Reykjavík to the top of the Langjökull glacier. We drive with the Ice Explorer from the edge of the glacier from 650 meters upto 1378 meters. We will explore the glacier and see it from inside. We can view the ash- and snow-layers many years back. This tour takes you to the farming district of Borgarfjörður and to the highest flow hot spring in Europe, Deildartunguhver. We will visit the lava waterfalls Hraunfossar, drive through the woodlands of Húsafell and up to the desert highlands by Langjökull glacier. At the roots of the glacier we will board our Ice Explorer that will take us to the top of Europe’s second largest glacier. We will explore the glacier and experience the unique travelling on the top of the snow and  the thick solid icefield. We will learn about its movement and how the melting water forms rivers and lagoons and how the glacier is getting smaller because of global warming. We will explore the glacier from inside and can view the ash and snow layers many years back in history.

The Ice Explorer will leave you by the glacier camp for overnight.
Our route back to Reykjavík continues the mountain track of Kaldidalur through Thingvellir, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
